News & EventsNIGERIA SET FOR AN EXPLOSIVE GROWTHBy Tim IgwebuikeMarch 23, 2007 Nigeria as a country has positioned herself as the next emerging economy. With the high influx of world acclaimed "big companies" into China and India, which has brought high growth rate in these economies, Nigeria emerges the next destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). This West African country with over 140 million populations is blessed with enormous reserve of natural resources that are yet to be tapped. According to Andrew Morrison, President, Small Business Camp of New York, Nigeria will experience an explosive growth in the near future. He says, "Within the next 12 months, I am planning to sponsor a trade mission to Nigeria. There is no other economy on the planet that is set for such explosive growth." He predicted that thousands of millionaires would emerge over the next 10 years. However, the political tension in the country today seems to have restrained some potential investors from taking advantage of countless opportunities that abound in this most populous black nation. The outside world needs a lot more assurance from the Nigerian leaders on the stability of the country. Irrespective of the political turmoil in the country today and its negative image abroad, there are a few foreigners who believe in the Nigeria state. Such individuals include Andrew Morrison and Ramon Williamson, Morrison's business coach. These men were forced to change their perception about Nigeria when they came to the country recently on invitation by the Bank of Industry, Nigeria to participate in a National Tour on "Secret to Business Seminar." Instead of a corruption and crime infested country they saw a country full of opportunities. Efforts are being made to attract foreign investors to come and invest in Nigeria. One of these initiatives is the upcoming business roundtable on in Washington, DC. Nigeria's Bank of Industry, the U.S. Foreign Commercial Service, and some corporations in the United States are collaborating to organise a roundtable business exchange, titled: "Opportunities, Obstacles & Options - A Transparent Business Exchange Roundtable for Nigerian and American Companies." This meeting to be held in Washington, D.C. on April 11, 2007, will be facilitated by Rimsom Associates. It will bring together Nigerian and American companies to partner in the areas of food processing, finance, telecommunications, energy, mining, agriculture etc. The essence of the meeting is to attract investments to Nigeria by introducing credible and viable Nigerian businesses to corporate America. The ideal result will be a less skeptical American business community which engages in substantive business with Africa's most populous market. |
