On Tuesday June 15, 2010, the Secrets to Success Boot Camp kicked off in Abuja the Federal Capital. “Secrets to Business Success V National Tour” – Expanding the Economy through Entrepreneurial Education despite a Global Financial Crisis is a project that enhances small business and economic development in Nigeria. It is collaboration between Rimsom Associates, Nigeria’s Bank of Industry, and governments of various states in Nigeria. Boot Camp V travelled through the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and Jos, Plateau state between June 15th and 18th June 2010 bringing the total number of states visited to sixteen.
The MD/CEO of BOI, Ms. EveIyn Oputu; US Ambassador Sanders; the Honourable Minister of Women affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Josephine Anenih; representative of the Minister of the FCT were at the opening ceremony in Abuja. In Jos, Governor Jonah Jang was ably represented by the Secretary to the Plateau State Government, His Royal Majesty, the Gwong Gwom, other traditional rulers and other members of the Plateau State Executive Council as well as top management of the Bank of Industry were on ground during the opening ceremony in Jos.
Boot camp V featured Mr. David Robinson, son of renowned African American Base baller, Jackie Robinson, he is the President of Sweet Unity farms Coffee Cooperative, Tanzania; Ms. Abimbola Ogunseitan, a consultant World Bank Consultant and Mr. Emmanuel Monn, Manager, Micro Credit/Micro Finance Enterprise, Unit Organization for Rural and Community Development.
Over one thousand participants attended the boot camp in both states and they were thought entrepreneurial skills to boost their businesses, increase their income, and develop the economy. The participants were drawn from the Area Councils in the FCT and Local Government Areas in Plateau State. Topics covered during the training includes:-
- Fundamentals of entrepreneurship
- SWOT Analysis
- Record Keeping to attract Finance
- Soft Skills and retaining your business
- Drafting a loan application
- Managing your time
- Operating your business
- E-commerce and becoming export ready
Bank of Industry was also available to discuss with participants about available BOI loan facilities and programs to help boost their businesses. BOI also had a presentation on the AGOA Resource Centre and how it can be of immense benefit to them.
